In fact, singing of well-known carols, often in chorus, and listening to captivating Christmas music is an integral part of the celebrations of this wintertime festival. Talking about Christmas carols,a favorite English Christmas carol is '12 days of Christmas' but 12 days of Christmas music is supposed to have a French origin.
12 days of Christmas was, to begin with, a poem which was later made into a carol. As an English carol it first got published in the book called 'Mirth without Mischief' in the year of 1780. Interestingly, it is the 12 days of Christmas music which is responsible for this Christmas song becoming a great hit. However, it must be noted that while 12 days of Christmas is for some a nonsensical piece of poetry put to music, for a few others it is a 'catechism song' generated to instruct Catholics on the basic doctrine of the Christian faith. It is according to the latter view of the song that it is often believed to be one filled with religious symbols and obscure meanings.
It is Jeff Foxworthy who popularized the 12 days of Christmas music through his best-selling album, Redneck 12 Days of Christmas. Jeff Foxworthy's song is actually a parodied version of the actual Christmas carol and replaces the 12 days of Christmas gifts mentioned in the song with contemporary Christmas gifts like portions of Mustang GT, flannel shirts, wrestling tickets and many others.
Christmas in the West is almost synonymous with multiple performances and concerts that are closely associated with the music of Christmas. These shows are attended by crowds of people who consider them to be a significant aspect of the joyfulness that the season of Christmas entails.
