From small displays to elaborate ones, Nativity Scene of all types are seen in Spain during the Christmas season. Sometimes on the night before Christmas, the plazas arrange for a live performance of the Nativity Scene with local actors and actresses playing the role of Mary and Joseph, the Magi, baby Jesus, as well as the donkeys, sheep and lamb.
During Christmas Celebration in Spain, sometimes in the villages and small towns of rural Spain, children are seen singing Christmas carols in the streets. This is a longstanding tradition in Spain called as the Aguinaldo. Since 1763, this Christmas lottery has been a tradition associated to Christmas that enables a person to become instantly rich.
Like many other parts of the world, Christmas Eve in Spain is known as Nochebuena. On this there are two major traditions are followed. The first one is enjoying a great and delectable meal, and the second one is to attend the Christmas Mass. There is a wide variety of dishes served as dinner on this day. Some of the lip smacking Spanish Christmas recipes are roast lamb, suckling pig, duck or turkey, shrimps, crabs, lobsters, and numerous types of fish preparations. All types of desserts are found in this dinner from turron and marzipan to almonds and egg desserts.
On Christmas Day, i.e., December 25 people spend their time with their families, goes for another heavy meal and children exult after receiving gifts from Papa Noel. Unlike other countries, the custom of offering gifts is not so popular, as the Spanish people wait to exchange gifts on Three King’s Day.
