Christmas On Net >> Christmas Music >> Russian Christmas Music

Music is an integral part of any celebration. Any kind of religious celebrations round the globe are based on music. Christmas is the festival of lights and joy. The occasion is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Celebrations of birthdays are inchoate sans music. How can somebody think of Christmas without music? Russian Christmas music is part of the celebration of Christmas in the country. People pray to God for a better and world, convenient to live in.

The major Russian Christmas music piece is composed by Alfred Reed in1944 for the symphonic band. This Russian Christmas music comprises of 4 major parts.

Still the whole song moves on a single movement. The four major parts are,

(1) Carol of the Little Russian Children,
(2) Antiphonal Chat,
(3) Village Song and
(4) Cathedral Chorus.

The beginning section is the Carol of the Little Russian Children. This portion is based on the Russian Christmas carol popular in the16th century. A melody by the clarinets follows the quieter opening with the accompaniment of bells and the tuba (bass horn). Later on it is joined by numerous other voices and is concluded by a number of chords. The whole performance of this section takes around three minutes.

Antiphonal Chat is the second part. The performance of the section takes around two minutes. The melody is at its best when accompanied by trombones, horns, trumpets and cornets. This section ends with the help of woodwind instruments. The section ends loudly.

The Village Song portion is the third part of the Russian Christmas Music. This part lasts for approximately five minutes. This section consists of two solos by Christmas horn one being the soli (composition sung by only one voice/instrument with or without accompaniment) with flute and the other being the solo by horns.

Cathedral Chorus is the last part of the total composition. It starts at the end of the Village Song. At this point trombones and the percussion beats intensifies increases the music. Finally the music reaches climax and recedes towards the final chorale. The sonorous final part is the most interesting part of the lot. The portion is around five minutes long.

The Russian Christmas music is a 14 to 16 minutes long choir. The main purpose behind its composition was making people familiar with the tunes of the Eastern Orthodox liturgical music. Liturgical music is marked by the usage of human voice. Christmasonnet will be obliged to inform its readers with all the relevant information on Russian Christmas music.
