Snowman

Winters bring along lots of ice all around and a chance for children of all age group to build their dear Snowman. The history of Snowman finds it's origin in western culture and in the traditions prevalent in Northern hemisphere. With Christmas falling on the same time of the year, it becomes one of their favorite activities during Christmas holidays. So much so is the craze that, Snowman has become one of the prominent representations of the festival, which is celebrated across the globe with much gusto.

“Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose,
And two eyes made out of coal.”

The best place to build a Christmas Snowman is wide empty valleys full of natural snow. After the powder snow comes almost to the melting point, it is called as packing snow. This is the best type to make a Snowman as it stick to each other well enough enabling the construction of the model of desired size and shape. A Snowman has a big and bulky body with two black eyes and a red nose. Traditionally, a carrot is used in order to make his nose and charcoal is fixed in the place of eyes. Clothings and accessories may consist of a walking stick, a muffler hung round his neck, a black hat. You can add certain things like a bird nest or may be a bunch of dried stems of plants put around the Snowman.

During the Christmas season, it is a common scene of people taking family photographs with Snowman standing in the middle of them. It was the year 1999 and the month of February, when Bethel Maine made the world's largest Snowman and broke all records. The 113.7 feet tall and 9,000,000 pounds in weight, this stupendous model was named as 'Angus, King of Mountains'.

There are many Christmas holiday activities linked to Snowman. Children movies like Bouli, Snowman and Rave Master have immortalized the character of Snowman in the hearts and mind of all. Also, many Christmas carols/songs glorify Snowman in a wonderful manner. The famous illustration is “Frosty the Snowman...”, an extract from which has been given in the beginning.

Present days see Snowman available in electronic and digital versions all ready to be a part of your Christmas decorations. These plastic or ceramic Snowmen do not melt away with sunlight and can be used during many forthcoming Christmases.
