Merry Christmas

Christmas On Net >> Merry Christmas

Christmas is something more than merely an annual holiday. The birth of Jesus of Nazareth means something more than merely the birth of a child. Apart from Jesus's birth the festival marks various other customs and traditions and customs. Most of these customs were influenced by the ancient winter festivals. Display of the Nativity scenes, Christmas trees, exchanging gifts and the arrival of Father Christmas or Santa Claus are among the traditions of Christmas Eve. On the occasion of Christmas promotion of goodwill is the part of celebrating Christmas. Usually people wish Merry Christmas to others. This custom has been followed from time immemorial.

The birth of Christ is celebrated on 25th December. The day of Christmas is preceded by Christmas Eve which falls on 24th December. Some of the countries follow the next day, 26th December as the Boxing Day on December 26. Sixth January is the day on which the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas. Some of the Orthodox Eastern Churches celebrate Christmas on 7th January. Actually the date 6th January corresponds with the date 25 December on the Julian calendar. According to some experts the birth of Jesus must not be celebrated on 25th December as it is not the original date of birth of Christ. The date of 25th December used to be celebrated in ancient days as the rebirth of the Italic god Sun. But whatever may be the origin of this custom, people around the world wish Merry Christmas.

The phrase Merry Christmas actually means make merry on Christmas and try to be happy. People just want to forget about all the troubles and get drenched in the color of Christmas. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the person who played the role of a savior to distressed people. Naturally people make merry on Christmas and wish that others must be happy as well. To make merry one need to unshackle their mind from all kinds of preoccupation. The biggest winter festival in this world allows people to do that and make merry. That is why people wish Merry Christmas to their near and dear ones, because they want them to be merry on Christmas. Christmasonnet unfurls a list of different ways of wishing Merry Christmas.
